Our Approach
BAS had been working with Kayla’s Children’s Centre since 2018 and has developed a full donor program of interior and exterior naming, dedication signs and an ongoing donor wall. So, in 2021 when Kayla’s decided to add a new Hydrotherapy Centre to the current facility, they called on BAS to help them develop the donor recognition signage. When we began work on the recognition program for the Hydrotherapy Centre, the site was a parking lot. BAS worked with the architects and contractors using concept drawings, floor plans and elevations in order to begin the design for both exterior and interior signage. Our deliverables included planning/consultation, coordination and design of all exterior/interior recognition components, production, project management, fabrication and installation.
There were many donors to thank, and a number of donation levels to recognize. The scope of work for the project included three exterior naming opportunities, including the building itself and the pool, interior naming, room dedications and an updateable donor wall. BAS collaborated with Kayla’s to create a system that coordinated with the signage already in place for the school, yet with its own distinct look. As with the existing signage the design approach was bright and playful to reflect the children who will enjoy the facility.
Two of the exterior signs – the building and the pool dimensional letters - presented a challenge in that the construction was completely glass with protruding mullions. The mullions could not be drilled into, and the building naming at the front and pool naming along the side needed to be lit. We solved this by creating a bridge-like structure with the same colour and feel as the mullions with the letters affixed to and sitting atop the structure with all the electrical wiring running inside the hollow bars.
When the building opened in December of 2022, all signage was in place. The exterior pieces worked beautifully, and inside, dimensional letters honoured the donors who named areas and the donor wall and dedication signs were rightly coloured and aquatic themed replete with bubbles, fish and underwater scenes.
